Learning to Delegate

Taking out the Scarecrow in Arkham Knight has made the Author realise something-

His team was too big for some jobs. Also- as his list of wrongs to right throughout fiction came to mind- he might get a lot more done if he would spread his workforce a bit wider...

So- after careful consideration he ended up sitting in a room full of computer screens in the middle of literally nowhere, monitoring the progress of his carefully placed agents. Kayako stood quietly behind him, looking over his shoulder at one of the screens that was enjoying all of the Auithor's attention at the moment...

The Joker was happily humming a tune in the music-less elevator that he and his two thugs were taking up to where Barbara Gordon's apartment was. His humming came to a stop when the elevator did. The door, however, was not opening...

The Joker had nothing to say to his two henchmen when the elevator's lights went out...

After a part of the elevator's roof got quietly removed to let Batgirl (Cassandra of course!) in the three criminals had even less to say when the door opened on Barbara's floor to reveal 3 unconscious men inside with a lithe black bat-figure stepping over them to get to the door of a certain apartment...

Commisioner James Gordon and his daughter were actually talking about the Joker when the doorbell rang. Barbara went to get it.

The dark masked figure greeting her at the door gave her a small seizure. This person was clearly also a Batgirl, but ten times as scary as Barbara could ever look in her suit and- Barbara was sure- this one was a lot more dangerous than Gotham's current Batgirl was.

Cassandra was speechless. She wanted to say "hi". She wanted to say that she had a present for her dad and her. Seeing Barbara standing up after so many years of being used to seeing her in a wheelchair, though, was a real shock for her. Her vocal cords felt paralyzed and the best she could do was point to the elevator...

Barbara immediately rushed out to see the Joker lying on his stomach on the elevator floor. His head stuck out just enough to keep the elevator door from closing.

"How did this..." Barbara gasped and looked around to where the Batgirl was standing- only to find that she had vanished...

Cassandra walked through the portal into the lair. The Author and Kayako stood there waiting for her.

"Are you okay?" he asked. Then- as he realised that she was not in the mood to talk about it- he just said: "You have done a terrific job." and walked back to the computers in the next room.

The lair had a room for every team member to rest. Cassandra went to hers and lay down on her bed. She was far from feeling sleepy. A lot was on her mind. She had changed history in a major way, but she was happy. Later in that timeline her past self was going to meet Barbara, but this time- Barbara was going to be able to stand, walk, jump and do all the things that she does. Bruce would most likely not deem it necessary to make a costume for her then. She lay and wondered- Who would I be then...?
