Kawaii Monster

The Author did not know where exactly this block of apartments was when he stepped into it out of the portal, but he also did not need to know. He knew this story well enough to know that he had arrived at just the right part. Behind the jammed door to his right was a Japanese lady with two terrified girls, frantically performing a ritual before their time ran out. To his left was a possessed man who was charging towards the door with a crowbar in his hands. He now found something, or rather somebody, new to charge...

The Author stepped forward just enough for the crowbar to miss him in its downward arc and then pivoted to drive his heel into the man's abdomen. The spinning back kick was powerful enough to stop him in his tracks and to knock him down.

Once this man snaps out of being possessed he was going to barf like a kid fresh off the Crazy Teacup Ride...

The Author heard the screams and knew very well that he was going to find who he was looking for behind the jammed door.

A well placed front kick completely disregarded all bolts, hinges and other obstacles that may have kept in in place.

Inside the room, the Demon Wraith Kayako was still contending with the screams of terror that she was accustomed to cause in whomever met her, but the man entering the door triggered the deepest instinct of terror within her.

For you see- Kayako may be an undead Japanese girl, but she is still a Japanese girl- and this man-
He was that one thingthat all Japanese girls, undead or not, dreads with mortal fear- a Gaijin Otaku.

Kayako's gurgling growl suddenly got replaced with "I'm sorry! I'm busy now! I really cannot talk to you!" before she vanished.

The Author, however knew that however she may vanish, she would never leave the building.

In view of a previously terrified, now just stupefied, audience of three the Author gently touched the wall with the palm of his hand and cleared his mind.

He could sense the terrified girl trying her best to hide from him.

In an endless dark void in his mind the Author managed to manifest both himself and the fearful demon...

"Kayako..." he said softly..."you don't need to be afraid anymore."
"I don't like Gaijin!" she cried, curling up into a ball as he walked towards her.

The Author felt really sorry for her. He really meant her no harm.

"Tell me..." he said as he softly put his hand on her trembling arm. "How would you like to have peace? How would you like to rest?"

"I cannot rest until they are all dead!" Kayako cried.

"You know, however, that these people are not the ones who have hurt you..., right?" the Author asked.

Kayako looked up from her arms. "My sister-" she began, but the Author finished her sentence. "did nothing but watch when your mother put all those curses within you. Yes..."

"Yes!" she cried and embraced the Author when he reached out to hold her. As her head rested on his shoulders she was no longer a terrifying demon wraith, but just a pale girl with a lot of hurt and sadness...

The warm embrace felt strangely pleasant. It was something that she had never felt before.

The Author whispered in her ear: "I will give you a place of peace where you can stay until the end of time. You will be safe and loved. You will never need to fear anyone again."

"I don't fear..." Kayako sobbed.

"Okay-" the Author conceded. "-but it will be better than here. It will be my thanks to you for helping me."

"Helping... you...?" Kayako asked in surprise. She was no longer crying. Just surprised...

"Yes..." the Author said. "This is why I was looking for you..."

A while later the Author snapped out of his trance and let go of the wall.

Kayako appeared in front of him. She quietly walked to him and put her arms around his neck.

Naoko was speechless. She had never thought this possible.

In the Author's embrace Kayako turned into a cloud of grey vapour and then seeped into the Author's nose and mouth until she was gone.

This was when the Author decided that it was time to acknowledge the people with him.

"You can all calm down now." he simply said. "You are all safe- and so is she..."

The Author then exited the room without ceremony and stepped into a newly formed portal. Kayako and he had work to do in another story...
