Doomsday is Cancelled

50 Miles away from Metropolis, December 1992-
The lonely road sign stood quietly at the side of the road. It was afternoon and the field in which it stood was undisturbed for the moment. Far away explosions could be heard. It was definitely the sound of a battle being fought.
If one was to visit the battleground, however, he would not find any tanks, guns or explosives being used. No...
On this battlefield 6 of the DC Universe's best superheroes were fighting a monster which tore through them like a force of nature- an unstoppable force at that. Soon the Monster was going to be done fighting these interlopers that had just interrupted him in his course of destruction. Then he was going to head for the city that lay 80 miles ahead of him...
A portal opened out of thin air, which you the reader ought to know by now to signal the coming of the Author. Following him ou of the portal was an adult Goku. He had just defeated a villain called Baby in his world when the Author showed up to fetch him.
His health and power got restored immediately when he shook the Author's hand. With a quick goodbye to his confused friends he had stepped into the portal and found himself here with the man in the white cloak who had stopped him from being turned into a child some months ago.
"I know you like strong opponents, Goku." the Author said as he lit a cigarette.
"The monster that you are about to face is not nearly as strong as you right now, but he will instantly get stronger the more you injure him. I want you to know this."
Goku looked towards where he could hear the explosions. He was already sensing the 7 strong power levels not too far away. One was particularly strong, but the Author was right- he was nowhere near his own power level...
The Author continued after a drag on his smoke: "At the moment he can also not fly, but who knows what abilities he will gain if the battle gets drawn out too far..."
"I understand... This monster will destroy this world if I don't stop it, right?"
"Something like that..." the Author replied. "What I want you to understand, however, is that this is not a test of your strength. This monster is not a fighter. He is not Cell or Frieza or any of the other villains that you have faced. He has no plan, no reason. Just an instinct to destroy everything in his way..."
"Like Buu!" Goku interjected, thinking that he understands the situation.
The Author shook his head. "No. Not like Buu...." then he stopped himself...
"You know- you are actually right... He is very much like Buu. He needs to be destroyed before he can become too strong for anyone to beat..."
With that the Author pointed to the sky and said: "Heads up!"
Goku saw the gray speck in the sky becoming bigger as it approached them.
The monster landed and curiously eyed the two loiterers.
"Goku. Meet Doomsday. Doomsday- Goku..." the Author casually said as he flicked away his cigarette. "You two have fun..."
Goku held his hand out for Doomsday to shake. Doomsday did take hold of Goku's wrist, though and tossed him aside. The sound of him crashing into something far away was faintly audible as Doomsday looked at the man with the white cloak. The man quietly looked back at him and softly said: "Wait for it..."
A sonic boom shook the air in the area as Doomsday suddenly got swept away by a man-sized object that slammed into him with the force of a hundred runaway trains.
Doomsday was going to realise about half a second later that he has just received a flying tackle from Goku.
That was about when Superman showed up and found the Author looking in the direction in which Goku had just flown off with Doomsday.
"Where's Doomsday?" Superman demanded. He was not sure whether this strangely dressed man was another unknown superhero, someone on Doomsday's side or just another villain. He was certain, however, that he had to catch up with Doomsday really soon or else...
"Doomsday is being taken care of." the Author replied.
Just then another sonic boom erupted and the air shrieked as Doomsday's body flew over them. He had just received the mother of all punches to the solar plexus. His flight got interrupted, however, when Goku appeared above him and sent him flying down with a powerful downwards stomp. Doomsday shot into the ground like a speeding bullet and shook the earth as he struck it.

"I have to ask you for your help with a threat to another universe, though..." the Author continued as Superman stood there distracted by the sight of a very one-sided fistfight that he was watching with his telescopic vision. This strange fighter did not take a single hit as he vanished and appeared out of thin air at just the right time. Every time the fighter reappeared was at a blind spot in Doomsday's vision. He could hear the monster's ribs snap as some of the punches landed...
"Superman!" the Author called, snapping his fingers in front of his eyes. "I am sure that you have realised shortly before my arrival that this monster is stronger than anything that you have faced. I knew the outcome of your battle with him..."
Superman has seen and heard a lot of strange things in his life. Time travellers, an imp that alters reality... He was no stranger to the absurd...
"So you are from the future..." Superman ventured a guess.
"Yes, but not from this reality's future." the Author replied. "In my reality this reality is fictional. It was written by a person in my world."
"And you have come to write a different ending to this story..." Superman finished. He understood.
Doomsday was now lying unconscious with Goku sitting cross-legged by his side, patiently waiting for him to wake up. After a while he noticed two men flying towards him.
"He is going to be much stronger when he wakes up, isn't he?" Goku asked when he noticed the Author was one of the men.
The Author smiled. "You bet..." then added...",but you are not going to see it happen..."
The Author opened up a portal and looked at Superman. "Superman...?"
Superman picked up the unconscious collossus and flung him into the portal without wasting any time. He certainly did not want to have this threat on his planet any longer...
Goku was disappointed, but instantly became his old cheerful self again when he got introduced to Superman. The Author then apologised and ended the meeting with an excuse that they had to be off and opened another portal into which he and Goku now vanished...
Superman looked at the city in the distance. It was his home- Lois' home- and it was safe and undisturbed. He owed these two big time. The Author was going to return sometime later and ask for his help and he has already made up his mind that he will give it without hesitation.
With a sigh of relief Superman flew back to tend to his fallen comrades.

In a completely different reality an ominous fleet of spacecraft is on its way to find a source of power that was going to enable its leader to eliminate half of the Universe with a snap of his fingers...
Thanos was going to have to put that plan on hold, though, because a portal had just opened up on the bridge of his ship.
Thanos turned away from his window when he heard the air sizzle with the portal's opening. A lifeless body limply fell out of the portal and lay still long for a while. The being on the floor was about his size...
Thanos stepped closer to inspect the body. He gently turned its head to face him.
Then he saw its eyes open...
