Be Careful What You Wish For

Kami's lookout point is not really located on the best spot for receiving visitors.

The lookout point itself is atop an insanely high tower that may as well have reached into space. Yet, mercifully, this most sacred of places is situated barely within the Earth's atmosphere. This particular Earth's anyway.

Today, however, this quiet lookout point for Earth's Guardian and his assistant, Mr Popo was having a busy day. The first visitor to arrive was Goku, of course, who have flown up the tower. With Earth at peace for so long he decided to make full use of the hyperbolic time chamber to get stronger. Dende has already become used to his regular visits.

The second visitor was the Author, who quietly arrived in the large unoccupied hallway through a portal that had quietly opened up out of nowhere. He wore a large white hooded cloak today- just for dramatic effect. The Author knew that this part of the lookout point would be unoccupied. He also knew that it was near enough the place where he was soon to play his part in this story. The Author found himself a spot on the balcony, just behind a wall, so that he could be out of sight from the people who were to arrive soon.

Now... the third visitor came accompanied by a girl and a talking job. Pilaf was a tiny goblin-like creature that could have passed for a Namek if one was to squint a bit. In his earlier days Pilaf was a formidable super villain. The threats that this planet has seen since his time, however, have moved him all the way down to the class of "Minor Nuisance". Well... Pilaf was determined to make a major change to that today.

The Author sat quietly and listened to Pilaf barking orders to Shu and Mai. They were getting the Black Star Dragonballs in place.

Pilaf called for the Dragon...

The Dragon appeared. "Speak your wish!" his voice boomed across the skies...

That was all according to Pilaf's plan.

A voice boomed out of nowhere-

"Revive King Kai, Bubbles and Gregory!"

This was where Pilaf stoof speechless, not even noticing Goku who has shown up in the meantime.

"It is done!" the Dragon confirmed.

Dende, Goku, Mr Popo and Earth's favourite minor annoyance stood in silent confusion as they looked at the hooded figure stepping out from behind the wall.

Dende felt that he was obliged to break the silence.

"What's the meaning of this?" he asked in the most indignant tone that he could muster. He was not really certain whether he was supposed to be angry.

"To start with-" the Author replied "Pilaf and his two flunkies were just leaving..."

Pilaf found that the order to retreat was unnecessary and without a word raced off after his two sidekicks...

"Ahhh! I see! Pilaf was probably going to use the Dragonballs to do something bad again, weren't they?"

"Those are not just Dragonballs..." Mr Popo replied. "Those are the Black Star Dragonballs. Their power is far greater than the Dragonballs of Earth."

"And now they are scattered throughout the Universe..." Dende sighed, realising that a crisis has visited upon them at a most inconvenient time.

"My apologies..." the Author said, taking the conversation toward an explanation for his appearance. "I will also be leaving soon, but I came to stop Pilaf from doing something that would otherwise have permanently distorted the flow of events in this story. Not to worry, though... Goku always enjoys extra training. He will gladly travel the Universe to find you the Dragonballs."

"Yeah, but you know..." Dende began...

"Yes. I know the Dragonballs of Earth have been damaged by overuse." the Author interrupted "This too shall be fixed in time."

Goku managed to utter in amazement: "You mean the Dragonballs can be damaged...?"

"I am afraid it is the truth..." Dende confirmed.

The Author felt that everything was now as it should be and started opening a portal...

He spoke while the others looked at the portal in amazement: "You will see me after Goku has defeated Omega Shenron." He looked at Goku and continued:

"Goku- that shall be when I will ask for your help to fix another story..."

"Well... Okay I guess..." Goku replied with a chuckle.

And so the Author disappeared from this universe, only to return much later...
